Advantages and Disadvantages of Linux Over Windows
Do you already know what Linux is? maybe some people are familiar with linux, but for those who don't know what linux is, in this article, i will explain what linux is, the advantages and disadvantages of linux, some examples of linux distros, so take a closer look.
Understanding Linux
Linux is a UNIX-based operating system developed by Linus Torvalds. Linux is an operating system that is open source (free to develop) or perhaps better known in the community itself, it's free, yep, linux doesn't require buying a license like windows and also if you can develop linux you can make a linux OS as you wish.
Linux is a little different from the operating system commonly used by the public, the difference lies in the linux kernel and the components that make it up that can be accessed freely and openly. FYI linux is not the only open source operating system there are others but linu is the best in open source operating system.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Linux
There must be someone asking what the advantages and disadvantages of linux are compared to other operating systems, this classic question actually depends on the user, but I will give linux advantages and disadvantages in my view.
Linux advantages
- Open Source; Linux is an operating system that is free to develop, free to use, free to redistribute.
- Virus Resistance; Linux is more immune to viruses than DOS-based operating systems, this is very important for the comfort and safety of the user.
- Low Spec; Linux does not require large PC / Laptop specifications so this is very helpful for those who do not have a PC / Laptop with high specifications.
- Scalability; Linux can run on machines as small as 3Com Palm Pilot and Digital Itsy or on large machines such as beowulf clusters.
- Stability; Many large agencies use linux servers because of their superior stability compared to wind * ws servers.
- Non-Fragmentation; Linux users make it easy to edit, create, and delete files without having to worry about fragmentation of programs or user data.
Lack of Linux
- For the first time using Linux, it may be a little difficult to operate this operating system.
- The installation process is quite difficult compared to the windows operating system
- Many software and hardware vendors do not support linux
- The directory structure and permissions are confusing for Linux beginners.
